Eucalyptus Fibrosa - Red Ironbark

The Red Ironbark is an extremely hardy tree and grows to 35m. Its ability to regenerate after severe stress eg fire, drought and heavy grazing is due to the fact it stores vital carbohydrates (starch) in a lignotuber located at the base of the stem or just below the surface of the soil. This allows it to store numerous dormant buds and can therefore re sprout rapidly. Its grey to black bark contrast with white flowers and olive green lance like leaves.
