Acacia Leiocalyx - Black Wattle

Acacia Leiocalyx is a fast growing, large shrub to small tree reaching up to 12m. This is a classic "pioneer" species meaning it establishes and grows very quickly to repair damaged landscapes. It does not have true leaves but sickle shaped phyllodes which range from 7-18cm in length. The bark is very darkly coloured and is rough and deeply fissured. Bright golden-yellow flower spikes start the show from late autumn to through to spring. Drought hardy and frost tolerant and a hard working nitrogen fixer. This wildlife super feeder is an essential source of winter food and shelter for insects, birds and wildlife.
